Nutter Butter Ghosts

No school today—hurray! Lexie slept over at a friend’s last night, but the youngest two came into bed with me this morning to snuggle and it was just like old times.

First on the agenda are Nutter Butter Ghosts, which I spotted on Marta Writes last week. You can go here for the complete how-to. The ghosts are easy to make, but they have a good “wow” factor.

Next up is Grandma’s craft sale. Can’t wait to see what she’s been working on. We’re also putting together Halloween costumes and experiments for Will’s Mad Scientist birthday party. Yikes! I’d better get busy.

Dryer Vent Pumpkins

When I first saw the link for these on ohdeedoh, I thought it said “dryer lint pumpkins.” Dryer vent pumpkins are much less strange, but still pretty amazing. How, how, how do people come up with these ideas? “Check out this dryer vent. Wouldn’t it make a great pumpkin?” I just don’t see it happening in my brain. But maybe it’s a question of getting in the right mindset and looking at things differently.

This is our busy season for birthday parties, so I can’t see myself making any right now. But there’s always next year. Is this something you would make? Or buy, if you saw it at a craft sale? You can find the tutorial here.

Monster Cake

I love this cake from Makoodle. I can’t imagine getting the frosting to look like fur, but who knows? It could happen. And the cake pop eyes are awesome. You can find the directions here. Camille also has instructions for making really cute monster cupcakes. I think they’d be a great activity for a birthday or Halloween party.

The Runaway Pumpkin (and Cookies)

Do you have a favorite Halloween book? Around here, it’s The Runaway Pumpkin by Kevin Lewis. Have you heard of it? The book has great illustrations and is full of rollicking rhymes that are lots of fun to read aloud.

And what goes great with a book about pumpkins? Pumpkin cookies, of course! These soft iced pumpkin cookies are delicious and will make your home smell amazing.

I’ll be at Barnes and Noble tomorrow for book club, so I’m hoping they have Weekend Handmade in stock. I’ve heard great things about this book—maybe it’ll have some good ideas for Christmas gifts. In the meantime, here are some fun links for the weekend.
