Welcome to A Mom’s Year. I’m so glad you stopped by. This is me and my daughter, Lexie, on her birthday. Great-Grandma Marilyn is here, too, and you can just see Will in the corner.
I started this blog in January of 2011 for many reasons. To get back into the practice of writing, to organize thoughts and ideas that would help me run my home and take care of my family, and to chronicle our adventures. Along the way, I realized a blog is a wonderful way to meet like-minded people who inspire me in ways I never could’ve imagined.
In a former life I was a magazine and textbook editor. I created Spirit magazine for Special Olympics International and then got paid to read Jane Austen and Shakespeare for a Twin Cities publishing company. We lived for 14 years in the woods of western Wisconsin until one day, just weeks after our oldest graduated from high school, my husband got a job offer from Amazon in Seattle and we decided to say “yes” to an adventure in the Pacific Northwest.
I’d heard of Bainbridge Island because of knitting patterns I’d purchased from Churchmouse Yarns and Teas, and after doing some research I knew the island would be the right fit for us. The idea was to give the PNW a year and see how we all did. We’re in Year Four now and still loving it.
Here’s the whole crew. Me, Lily, Will, Lexie, Andrew, and Tim.
