We’ve just returned from a wonderful weekend spent with our “Forever Families.” These people are dear to our hearts because we shared the adventure of traveling to China together in 2005 to bring our daughters home. Plus, they’re some of the best people we know. We’ve been getting together every year since to share stories, play, and nurture these special ties to our daughters’ birth country.
This year, we stayed at the Wilderness Resort in Wisconsin Dells and, once we figured out where everything was (the place is huge!) we had a fantastic time. Buffets with all the bacon our hearts desired, rubber duck races on the lazy river, intense water slides. And all the while watching our girls, who are getting so big, playing together and having the time of their lives.
Here’s a little photo flashback to show how much the girls have changed. It’s a tradition for families adopting from China to take a photo on the red couch at the White Swan Hotel in Guangzhou. Everyone stays at this gorgeous hotel near the U.S. consulate while waiting for exit visas. My child is the one on the floor screaming her head off. Handful is right. I’m happy to say that she is much calmer now and doesn’t even scream a little when she gets together with her Chinese sisters.
I really think we need to have more than one reunion a year, but life is busy and we live too far apart. So I’ll just be grateful for the time we do get to spend together. It will be amazing to watch the girls continue to grow and change, year after year.
